The episode of Star Trek which is, I suspect, rather more famous for having the longest title than any other distinction.
The fundamental handicap this episode has is that everyone knows this is a weekly TV show. Therefore we know that McCoy will be cured of his disease by the end of the hour, and we know that he’s not going to stay with this woman who he has fallen in love with. It is possible to do something interesting even with that restriction, but it requires on a strong performance from the actor. And it just isn’t there – I suspect if you tuned in halfway through the episode you’d have a hard time telling that McCoy has just found out that he has only a year left to live.
63 down, 674 to go.
