There has been a strange fascination with children in the episodes of this season. Previous seasons have talked about the Enterprise being a family ship, but only this season has really done much with it.
I suppose it’s part of the design of the show, but it’s very rarely something I enjoy much. A big part of the problem is that good child actors are rare, and the one playing the ‘invisible friend’ in this episode is not very good at all. We’re supposed to get a sense of creepy malice, not wooden sullenness.
The plot isn’t great either, particularly the way we’re back to ‘Picard gives a great long speech to save the day’ at the end.
230 down, 507 to go.
