Dr Bashir is selected as the template for the Long-Term Medical Hologram.
There is a lot of interesting stuff in the story – Julian’s relationship with his parents, a new insight into the Federation and the things they do. But the plot hinges on a scene so stupid that I had to cover my eyes. There were plenty of other ways to do that plot turn, ways that wouldn’t have completely detached me from the plot.
It still comes out as a pretty good episode – there are some good scenes in the second half with Bashir and O’Brien, and Bashir and his parents. And the fluff-laden B-plot of Rom asking a girl out doesn’t use up too much time.
