The lead in to Picard is the last of the Short Treks (for now). Spoilers.
I’m honestly not sure what to make of this episode. It’s more of a tone poem than a story, with a series of largely dialog-less scenes as two school girls have an escalating conflict, and then are drawn together by tragedy. It’s well implemented, with effective use of music throughout and good performances from the leads. But there’s also a lack of imagination in portraying what a school looks like in the 24th century – desks in rows facing the teacher still? And other than the continuity elements and the links to Star Trek: Picard there’s little that makes this Trek.
