Spoilers.
Another overall weak episode. Trying to squeeze three plots into 22 minutes means that nothing really gets much time. And each of the stories had a bit of a flaw that made them not the greatest entertainment either.
The Boimler/Mariner story had some promise, but it seemed like the writers didn’t know what to do with it. We end up with an extended car chase that really isn’t that exciting or funny.
The Dooplers story is just silly. Yeah, it’s always great to have Richard Kind doing a voice, and the basic construction is fun. But they don’t do anything with it – it’s embarrassment tribbles, and nothing more. And then not knowing how to end the story the writers cut and paste the ending of the Boimler/Mariner story,.
The Tendi/Rutherford story was the best, but Rutherford’s memory thing came out of nowhere. It was set up at the end of last season, but there’s been really no reference to it since then. But the idea of making the model, and struggling with past you, was a good combination of funny and insightful.
Is it just me, or did that ‘epic after party’ just look lame too.
(PS: no cold open for the post this week, just like the episode. Can’t remember the last time we went straight into the credits on Star Trek).
816 down.
