Late, but back at last. Spoilers!
Back to Trek after a little break, and into the final season for Lower Decks.
…and it’s really not great. The jokes weren’t really firing. But the bigger problem is that I really just didn’t care very much about the stories. ‘Tendi being a pirate’ didn’t really give us anything we haven’t seen before, other than the totally unearned reveal that the other crew wanted to not be pirates too. And that was the relatively better half of the episode.
The alternate universe with the very slightly different crew had nothing of real interest. There was maybe the glimmer of an insight in the way that there was a lot of fighting between slightly different people, but that really goes nowhere. It’s a classic case of failing to deliver on the premise. Beyond the lead characters no one got a fun difference, or even a fun gag about their differences.
The only surprising thing in the episode was which of the plots is being carried forward – I was expecting Tendi back, but fake Mariner to continue on. But honestly I’d have been happier if they just moved on entirely.
