I have a strong suspicion that in a different mood I would have enjoyed this episode a lot more.
The basic plot idea, of putting Kirk and crew into the middle of the Wyatt/Earp feud in the 1880s, has a lot of potential. And some of the direction and budget choices, like not having a proper western set, could in theory give a nice surreal feel to the episode.
But I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief. I tried, but the whole thing just felt silly. I suspect that this is at least in part due to the flat performances of the extras. It’s not helped along by my growing annoyance at the ‘superpowerful alien race’ plot, which is being used so often it’s starting to wear out.
61 down, 676 to go.
