Geordi gets himself trapped down on a planet with a Romulan.
The main weakness of the episode is all the setup they have to go through in order to disable the communicators and the transporters. One of the problems with a show around as long as Star Trek is that you end up with a lot of ‘gadget-overhang’, and hence a lot of situations where you either have huge plot holes or have to jump through a lot of hoops to turn off the gadgets in question. But it takes a lot of screen time that isn’t very profitable in terms of story or character.
That leaves some good scenes on the planet (I particularly liked the field expedient climbing equipment Geordi makes), but scenes on the planet that spend half their time justifying why they can’t just beam Geordi straight up.
