This is an incredibly well known episode, as it set a premise that has been used again and again by science fiction TV shows since. I can remember thinking it was fantastic when I watched it the first time around. But this time it just didn’t have that spark – what was incredibly new and fresh came across as a bit stale, and not ambitious enough about what it tried.
This time around the element I enjoyed the most was seeing the senior officers as managers of staff. Of them all, Worf was probably the best, but all of them had their own approach to bringing out the best in their staff.
But crew evaluations in the Cafe? Oh no no no, that’s not a good idea.
