Chakotay falls in love with a block of wood.
Oh wait, that was an actress? Sorry, have to re-evaluate the whole episode now. That might seem a bit mean, but the poor acting (or, more fairly, the fact that the acting didn’t work for me) kills the episode. There’s a good premise here – the race that everyone forgets. But the implementation is lacking.
I think if the final act turn (she’s lost her memory, Chakotay tries to persuade her that she loves him) had worked I might have forgiven it. But the acting is so wooden and dull that there’s simply not enough difference. We honestly can’t tell there’s been any change. And that undermines everything.
